Volvo Penta Powers Baltic Workboats’ Latest Hybrid Patrol Vessel
BMG Power Systems delivers Volvo Penta marine diesel engines to Baltic Workboats’ innovative 29m hybrid patrol vessel
BMG Power Systems, the leading marine engine supplier in the Baltic States, has successfully delivered and commissioned a state-of-the-art marine propulsion package consisting of four (4) Volvo Penta marine diesel engines on board Baltic Workboats’ latest 29-metre hybrid patrol vessel. This collaboration marks a significant advancement in marine technology, combining robust diesel power with cutting-edge hybrid-electric capabilities.
The Vessel: Patrol 29 WP Hybrid
The Patrol 29 WP Hybrid is a 29-metre fast and efficient patrol vessel designed for inshore and coastal patrol as well as search and rescue (SAR) operations. Built with a durable aluminium hull, the Lloyd’s Registered vessel is reinforced for light ice conditions, ensuring reliable performance in a variety of sea conditions.
The vessel is powered by a diesel-electric/battery hybrid propulsion system comprising two Volvo Penta D16MH IMO III diesels as main engines and two Volvo Penta D13MP IMO III generators coupled with Danfoss E-Motors. This arrangement provides a total propulsion power of 2250 kW, ensuring both high performance and fuel efficiency.
The hybrid system includes ZF 3311 PTI/PTO gearboxes and batteries, allowing the vessel to operate in either fully electric or diesel-electric mode for quieter and greener operation. The propulsion system is complemented by a Sleipner SAC700 bow thruster for enhanced manoeuvrability.
Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
Baltic Workboats’ Patrol 29 WP Hybrid exemplifies the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in maritime operations. By integrating Volvo Penta’s advanced diesel engines with hybrid-electric technology, the vessel achieves a balance of power, efficiency, and reduced environmental impact.
This delivery by BMG Power Systems underscores the importance of collaboration in advancing maritime technology. The combination of Volvo Penta’s reliable engines and Baltic Workboats’ innovative vessel design sets a new standard for hybrid patrol vessels, promising improved performance and operational flexibility for maritime authorities.
