BMG Power Systems Delivers Advanced Marine Propulsion Package to Glacier Yachts
BMG Power Systems, the leading supplier of marine and industrial propulsion systems in the Baltic States and Volvo Penta distributor, has successfully delivered a comprehensive marine propulsion package for a ferry currently being built by Glacier Yachts, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing partnership. This delivery includes two Volvo Penta D8MH IMO III engines, ZF305-3 marine gearboxes, and the ZF Premium ClearCommand control system.
Cutting-Edge Volvo Penta D8MH IMO III Engines
The Volvo Penta D8MH IMO III engines are renowned for their advanced technology and compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Tier III emission standards. These in-line 6-cylinder, 7.7-liter diesel engines feature common-rail fuel injection, an overhead camshaft, and a twin-entry turbo. This design ensures efficient performance, lower emissions, and reduced noise levels. The engines have power output 221 kW (300 hp) @ 1800 rpm and are rated for continuous duty making them ideal for the tough conditions the ferry would work all year round.
The Volvo Penta D8MH IMO III is a modern state-of-the-art fuel efficient and compact diesel engine with low exhaust emissions due to the selective catalyst reduction (SCR) that converts nitrogen oxides (NOx) with the aid of catalyst into diatomic nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O) with the help of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) also known as AdBlue
The ZF305-3 marine gearboxes feature hydraulically actuated multi-disc clutches, ensuring smooth and reliable operation. Their robust design makes them suitable for continuous duty in workboat applications. The ZF Premium ClearCommand control system offers state-of-the-art electronic propulsion control, designed to withstand the harsh marine environment. This system integrates seamlessly with the engines and gearboxes, providing precise control and enhanced safety features. The ClearCommand system includes engine synchronisation, emergency reversal protection, and easy plug-in installation, ensuring optimal performance and ease of use.
The ferry currently in build by Glacier Yachts has impressive modern lines with a length overall of 23.6 meters and a beam of 6.1 meters. Her draught ranges from 0.8 to 1 meter, and she features a low air-draft design of 1.9 to 2.12 meters, allowing her to navigate under low bridges with ease. The vessel’s maximum displacement is 60 tons. She is designed to accommodate 130 passengers, with 78 seated and 52 standing, and has ample space for 48 bicycles on the aft and fore decks.
