Overview

BMG Power Systems is the official Volvo Penta distributor for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. We supply engines to boatbuilders, sell and install them for owners, and look after them for as long as the boat is in use — from our own workshops in Tallinn, Riga and Klaipėda, and from the Volvo Penta central warehouse in Tallinn.

Most of the larger boatyards in the Baltics fit Volvo Penta engines supplied by us. If you are buying a new boat here, there is a good chance its engine came through our warehouse.

Which Volvo Penta drive suits your boat

The engine is only half the choice. The drive decides how the boat handles, what it costs to run and how much room it takes up.

  • Aquamatic Sterndrive: The usual setup on sportboats and smaller cruisers, in petrol and diesel. The engine sits inside, the drive leg goes through the transom, and you can trim it on the move. Compact, and efficient once the boat is on the plane.

  • Inboard Shaft: The traditional layout for larger motor yachts and displacement hulls. Simple and durable, easy to service, and the right choice for a boat that spends long hours at steady speed.

  • Volvo Penta IPS: Forward-facing propellers on pods under the hull, each one steered on its own. Volvo Penta quotes clearly lower fuel consumption than a shaft installation on the same hull, and in practice owners notice the quieter cabin and the joystick control first — close-quarters handling stops being the stressful part of the day.

  • Forward Drive: Built for wakesurf and wakeboard boats. The propellers face forward and sit well under the hull, away from the swim platform, and the drive is shaped to build a clean, surfable wake.

  • Saildrive: For sailing yachts. The drive leg comes straight down through the hull, so the installation is compact, quiet and easy to align. We wrote more about saildrive versus a conventional gearbox.

Helm, controls and docking

Modern Volvo Penta engines run on Electronic Vessel Control (EVC): throttle, shift, steering and diagnostics over one network. That network is what makes the rest possible.

Joystick docking puts the drives, throttles and bow thruster under one lever.

Assisted Docking holds the boat against wind and current while you move it. Here is a short video of how it works.

Glass Cockpit puts the engines, navigation and much of the rest of the boat on one set of Garmin screens. Many boats leave the yard with only half of it connected — we wrote about that here.

Service and parts from our warehouse

We run the Volvo Penta central warehouse for the Baltic states in Tallinn, with regional stocks based in Riga and Klaipeda. Filters, impellers, anodes, belts, service kits and the common repair parts are on the shelf, so a routine service or a breakdown repair does not have to wait for a shipment.

Our technicians are trained and certified by Volvo Penta and work on these engines every day: annual servicing, winterising and spring commissioning, diagnostics, repairs and overhauls.

When you cruise further afield, Volvo Penta Action Service covers you around the clock. At home in the Baltics, that is us.

Repower and exchange engines

When an engine reaches the end of its life, or a repair would cost more than it is worth, the boat does not have to go with it. We repower boats with new Volvo Penta engines, and supply Volvo Penta Reman exchange engines — remanufactured at the factory, usually quicker and cheaper than a full rebuild.

For boatbuilders

We work with yards from the design stage: engine and drive selection, installation and propeller advice, deliveries timed to the build schedule, commissioning, sea trials and warranty support after the boat is handed over.
